Argh, if I don't write this now, I'm going to burst.
Just phenomenal. Absolutely phenomenal. Despite all the time that has passed and the new sound and new arrangement, Graham is back. His voice is that much stronger, he's that much more comfortable on stage, his stories are still fantastic and he is just the same... happy to meet everyone after the show, grateful for every kind word and just a true and honest person to the end. I believe the setlist went something like this: Telescope First Week If Love Was Enough Forget About You Cellophane Girl Best Days Everything was tied together with banter, lots of mentioning about Mamacita's in Oklahoma City and the 12 (it definitely wasn't 12) folks that turned up the last time GCB played the Birchmere. His voice was so controlled and pitch perfect... the songs sound amazing acoustic. I welled up with tears a couple of times, the music was that good. Graham mentioned several times during the show about how well the CD was doing, including the October Road bit. Turns out the news gets even better. HBO has selected "Best Days" as the score to their end of the year montage commercial (The Fray had it the year before, preceded by, we think, Imogen Heap.... Tammany Hall NYC was a few years before that). It's a HUGE deal and is certain to keep the wave of praise going for Graham. We wait a good chunk of time before the line of fans, old and new, died down. Graham was actually worried about having to fly back with CDs and paying the extra weight fee, but he sold out of CDs within MINUTES of the end of his set. People were pulling posters off of walls to have him sign. Rachel, Sam, Petrick, Sam and I had plenty of time to catch up afterwards. I can't say how GOOD it was to see him again, on stage and off. He's still Graham, through and through, and I'm so grateful for that. I can't wait until he comes through town again (he promises soon). Nothing but the best from and for Graham. |
